Prebrief

?

Whether it be in Campaign, Multiplayer, Round Based Zombies, or Call of Duty?: Warzone?, movement is a fundamental part of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 experience. There are many layers to moving your Operator, however learning the basics is something that every player can accomplish as well as begin their journey toward mastery.

?

This guide will walk you through what it means to crawl, run, slide, dive, and climb your way through the ’90s in your Black Ops 6 running shoes. This guide will also introduce you to Omnimovement, a new way to move within the Call of Duty franchise.

Movement

// TRAINING // MOVEMENT

Superior Settings. Movement will feel more natural when you program your settings with your personal style in mind. It’s vital that players take some time to get familiar with all the movement settings available.

Private Practice. Private Match and the Training Course are always available when you want to practice the movement in Black Ops 6. From new players to the elite professionals, there will always be room for improvement and something new to learn.

Slip and Slide. Even if it makes it harder to shoot the enemy, sometimes the best defense is, well, a good defense. Rather than running in a straight line, diving and sliding can make for a much more difficult target for your enemies.

The Basics

First things first, there are many layers to what makes a top echelon Call of Duty player, and mastering movement is certainly one of those layers. However, the vast majority of what great players utilize are the basics. They’re easy to pick up, and what it takes to master them is the knowledge of what your Operator can do in addition to a lot of practice. The only way to get better at moving is to practice doing so. Whether that be in a Private Match by yourself or with your friends, or simply just getting as many matches in as you can. No matter which mode you’re playing, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to run around and find your Omnimovement flow state.

Sensitivity

In Call of Duty, no matter the peripheral that you’re using to play the game, the Sensitivity settings dictate how fast or slow your Operator will change the direction it is facing or “looking.” The Sensitivity setting will not override hardware settings that you’ve set for your peripheral, whether it be a mouse, controller, or any other device, so if you can’t find the perfect setting that fits your needs, looking into your hardware settings may be the final step to customizing your comfort and optimization.

For both Mouse and Thumbsticks, the only “correct” sensitivity is the one that works for YOU. Some players like to keep a high sensitivity, roughly somewhere from 8.00 and above on Mouse and 8 to 20 on Controller, because they specialize in whipping around corners and being able to track targets that are up close and personal. Some players like their sensitivity low, anywhere from 0.50 to 3.00 on Mouse and 1 to 3 on Controller because it allows them to fine tune their aiming and hit target that may be at a distance or only showing a small part of their silhouette. Others enjoy their sensitivity right in the middle at a medium sensitivity, roughly 3.50 to 7.50 on Mouse and ?4 to 7 on Controller, because it’s a nice middle ground to cover the most combat scenarios between close-quarters and long-range.

Aim Sensitivity

// TRAINING // MOVEMENT

Custom correction. There is no “correct” sensitivity. The best sensitivity setting is the one that works for you.

Separate sensitivities. Remember that vertical and horizontal aiming have different sensitivity settings. Start with both settings the same and adjust them individually based on your preference rather than feeling like they always need to be the same.

Sensitivity multiplier mastery. Just as important as your Mouse or Controller sensitivity, the ADS Sensitivity Multiplier is something to adjust if you need a slight change. This is especially important if you enjoy a look speed that is significantly different from your aiming speed.

You can adjust both the horizontal and vertical sensitivities, as well as the Monitor Distance Coefficient on PC, so remember this when thinking about whether your aim feels right. Adjusting the horizontal sensitivity separately from the vertical is important when you think about the fact that you’ll need to pull down on the stick while firing your weapon to compensate for weapon recoil.

Every weapon will require a different intensity of pull down depending on its recoil stat, and each weapon will have a different variance in vertical recoil vs. horizontal recoil. Use the Gunsmith to add and replace attachments to help your recoil stats before adjusting your sensitivity settings any further. However, if changing your loadout doesn’t do the job, try slightly changing one sensitivity at a time until it’s just right.

?

Sliding and Diving

In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, your Operator can walk, run, sprint, Tac Sprint, slide, jump, and dive, giving you a wide arsenal of tools to play with and outmaneuver your enemies. Additionally, with the introduction of Omnimovement, you can take all these actions, except Tac Sprint, in any direction in addition to letting the game support and assist with your actions. More on this later in the guide.

Some of the most useful movement mechanics in the modern Call of Duty era is the ability to either slide or dive. Whether that be in an open area to avoid giving your enemy an easy shot and dive behind the next piece of hard cover, or to slide through a door and prevent anyone protecting the door from being able to pre-aim a weak point. To slide or dive, you must be in a sprint. This can be either a regular sprint or a Tac Sprint. As long as you’re sprinting, you can tap the crouch button to slide or hold it to dive and your operator will continue moving in the direction you were sprinting, except they will be sliding on one bent knee or diving through the air in full action hero mode. You can’t slide forever, but you can maintain your sprint speed for a quick second before you begin to slow down.

As a slightly advanced move, you may cancel your slide in the middle of it by pressing the sprint, crouch, or jump button. This will take you out of your slide and allow you to take a different action. Additionally, you can dive or slide backwards, slide into prone, or rotate mid dive into a position called Supine Prone which will give your Operator a reduced profile, making you more difficult to shoot.

Swimming

Swimming is a key function in Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone. Visiting locations all around the Call of Duty universe, there are plenty of places to go for a dip. Most of the time it may not be a necessity, but either way you’ll need to know what it takes to swim. On some maps, like Skyline, diving into the water should be a very purposeful move because there isn’t much room to maneuver once you’re in. However, once you’re in, it will take a keen eye from your enemy to spot you right way, so use this to your advantage.

Remember to keep an eye on your oxygen level and don’t stay in the water too long. The controls you would normally use to crouch will cause your operator to descend, while using jump will cause your operator to ascend through the water. Use this to maneuver as best as you can to either avoid incoming fire or out angle your opponent.

?

Omnimovement

Omnimovement is the ability to utilize familiar Call of Duty movement mechanics, but now in any direction. In Black Ops 6, you can move as you normally would in Call of Duty, but instead of only being able to do certain things exclusively in a forward direction, you can now move like an action hero in any direction. If you’re new to COD, mechanics like sliding and diving? may not be familiar, but all you need to understand when getting started is that Omnimovement allows you to do those things in all horizontal directions. If you want to strafe left and right while sprinting at the same time, you can do so; if you want to run forward or backwards, you can also do that. Now you can do all those things while in a full sprint, sliding to avoid fire or slip under an obstacle, or diving through a window. The only thing you can’t do in all directions is Tactical Sprint. Operators can only Tac Sprint while moving forward. It only makes sense to be able to run that fast in a forward direction.

The importance of Omnimovement is to give your operator even more freedom to perform as many action hero maneuvers and action hero things as you can imagine. Diving sideways through a window to eliminate enemies across the gap and then on the next floor all before you hit the ground is only one of the examples that makes great use of Omnimovement.

?

Vertical Movement

Vertical movement is defined by Leaps and Bounds that your operator makes in order to move vertically instead of horizontally. Sometimes, when you’re using the minimap and run into an obstacle, you may want to look up because there may be a way over it, or even under it for that matter. With the assistance of Intelligent Movement, you may even get some help when it’s beneficial to move over or under something.

?

Jumping is necessary to get across small gaps but greatly decreases accuracy. That’s what’s called a jump shot. Jump shots are fancy and look cool, so if you can achieve a few hits, or even a kill, it might be one for the highlight reel.

?

Mantling is when you grab onto a box, ledge, or other grabbable edge when there is a prompt to “mantle” it or have Intelligent Movement take that over for you. While mantling, you are unable to use your weapons.

?

Parachuting mostly happens on large map modes. Your operator comes conveniently equipped with an unlimited supply of parachutes, so when you fall from a lethal height, you can open a parachute to slow falling speed and allow better movement in the air.

Cutting the parachute early will allow you to fall faster. In between cutting the chute and reentering free fall, you can use your weapon for a few seconds.

Intelligent Movement

In Black Ops 6, there are options to enable Intelligent Movement. Intelligent Movement is a customizable way to help automate some actions when moving your operator. Whether you choose to automatically climb a ledge or slide under an obstacle, this new setting will help you do that with as few inputs as possible. Turning Intelligent Movement on and off is not entirely binary—you can choose which types of movement you’d like to toggle and even fine tune them a bit.

The Intelligent Movement settings are broken up into four different sections, each being a major action that you can fine tune with some of the sub-settings. Like most settings, there isn’t one “right” way to utilize Intelligent Movement, so it’s important to take some time and play with different combinations of the major settings to see what works best for you. There may be some that you want on and some off. For instance, turning Sprint Assist on or to Tactical Sprint Assist makes it so you will always be sprinting whenever possible, but keeping Mantle Assist off because you are very particular of when you wish to mantle. Intelligent Movement is not one size fits all, but it’s quite easy to make your own.

?

Here are all categories of Intelligent Movement and their sub-settings:

Sprint Assist/Tactical Sprint Assist

:

Sprint Assist Delay

:

Determines the amount of time from the moment you begin movement to when sprint is engaged. The lowest setting “0” will trigger Sprint/Tactical Sprint immediately and the higher you set it, the longer the delay.

:

Sprint Assist Sideways

:

You don’t have to always engage in Sprint Assist, but if you’d like to trigger it while moving sideways, this is the setting to turn on.

:

Sprint Assist Backward

:

Just like Sprint Assist Sideways, this optional setting will trigger Sprint Assist.

Mantle Assist/Low Mantle

:

Sideways

:

Tells your operator to automatically mantle a low obstacle when approaching it while strafing left or right.

:

Backwards

:

Tells your operator to automatically mantle a low obstacle when approaching it while moving backwards.

:

Tactical Sprint Only

:

Tells your operator only to automatically mantle only if you’re in a Tactical Sprint. So, if you aren’t engaged in a Tactical Sprint, your operator will not mantle unless manually triggered to do so.

:

Mantle Cancels Reload

:

This setting will cause your operator to prioritize mantling an object over reloading your weapon, meaning it will interrupt your reload if you’re in the middle of one. If you’re a player that reloads every chance you get, this may be an okay setting to keep on. However, if you only reload when absolutely necessary, reloading may be more important than mantling and you may want to turn this setting off.

Crouch Assist

:

Tactical Sprint Only

:

Crouch Assist will tell your operator to crouch, or more likely slide under an object that may be in the direction you’re moving. This option will tell your operator only to crouch/slide while you’re engaged in Tactical Sprint.

Corner Slice

Corner Slicing is an immersive movement system that shows your operator moving their weapon into a more tactical angle as you approach an obstacle’s edge or corner. As you approach a corner, your weapon will begin to tilt with the sights in the direction of the opening or sightline where you should be aiming. Naturally, Corner Slicing will engage when you approach any corner.

?

Corner Slicing is not a lean due to it being a purely cosmetic mechanic. In other words, your operator will not lean their body out further than their normal profile. This is still beneficial because it gives you a cleaner visual angle on tight corner shots. Part of your screen is being cleared as the weapon moves to the side you’ll likely not be shooting towards. You never know when this might come in handy, but you will always know that it looks cool. If you don’t like the way it looks, you can always turn it off in the settings. Just look up “Corner Slice” in the Movement menu.

?

Your control setup and settings are some of the main reasons you feel comfortable playing the game. In order to become the action hero you know your Operator can be, you need to fine tune your tools. Now that you have the knowledge to do so, get out there and get creative. Just remember:
